Social Service Centre (SOSEC) Nepal is working giving high priority and sensitivity to the rights of women, children, and youth empowerment. It works with various development partner organizations to obtain the rights of women, children, the Raute community, marginalized people and communities which are highly impacted by discrimination and inequality in Dailekh, Kalikot, and Surkhet districts of Karnali province, and Achham district of Sudurpaschim province of Nepal, using the integrated development approach. The organization is also adopting a zero-tolerance policy on violence against women, children and corruption.

SOSEC Nepal is going to implement pilot project named “Green Job, Green Generation (GJGG)” in partnership with Save the Children Nepal and in coordination with Gurans Rural Municipality of Dailekh district. In this piloting phase, project aims to support youths at the community level and school children of the selected areas in close cooperation with the SAHAYATRA project. The improved capacity of youth and women to establish green enterprises and engage them in green jobs in selected wards of Gurans Rural Municipality through piloting youth-led green jobs and enterprises for evidence generation and expansion, enhances climate-friendly livelihoods opportunities and enhances the knowledge and capacities of youth (men and women) to advocate and implement green job initiatives are the objectives of the project. Likely, the green generation are focused on climate awareness sessions, activism, and green gardens that culminate with their parents, households, and communities. The child club awareness and adaptive actions expand from schools to the communities for sustained climatic solutions to create employment opportunities for the youth and their parents, which ensures continued schooling and for the overall well-being of the children.

SOSEC Nepal is looking for qualified, dynamic, competent, and self-motivated Nepali citizens for the following positions in Dailekh (Gurans Rural Municipality) for the GJGG project for immediate deployment to the field, subject to donor approval, for the following positions:

Designation                   : Climate Change Project Coordinator

Number of Position      : One (1)

 

Detailed job description/requirements:

This is the technical position with the management responsibilities. The details of the role and responsibilities are given below:

Implementation of the project

  • Develop the terms of reference for hiring the consultant, ensure the quality of the reports, and implement the best approaches to the study findings in the area. The assessments include the potentiality and feasibility of study of the green jobs and green generation opportunities that support climate and environmental risks; developing green job protocols; and developing/updating the school improvement plan considering the green generation concepts.
  • Lead in the operationalization of the green economy development models for the youths by organizing a series of trainings and implementing green economy action for increased green sectoral business run by the youths.
  • Connect with government counterparts, cooperatives, and youth, including household members, to develop and implement a resilient and viable business plan.
  • Capacity building of the community forest users’ group (CFUGs) and mobilizing them for climate-friendly, water conservation and efficient water use technologies.
  • Ensure that the concepts of green generation are taught in schools. Formation/reformation of the child-clubs, training for them, including green school concepts in SIP and its implementation, campaigns at schools, climate, and environmental support activities, etc.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Collect both qualitative and quantitative data from field as and when required, assist on data processing and document them in the properly manner,
  • Work in the compilation and development of project reports; the preparation of case stories; collection of feedback and learning for developmental evaluation; in coordination with the MEAL and documentation teams.
  • Focused on evidence generation of the project actions, needs of the schools and youth for climate adaptive practices and know-how to be developed in the succeeding period.

Coordination and Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain close collaboration with the Gurans Rural Municipality, the SAHAYATRA team, the SMC, CFUGs, child clubs, youth clubs, and other stakeholders for the synergetic implementation of the project.

Others

  • Work closely with Save the Children’s Technical Manager-Child Poverty to ensure the successful implementation of the envisioned GJGG project.
  • Any other tasks developed during the implementation of the project.

Required Qualification

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Environmental Science, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Management, or NRM sector with experience of working in green jobs and enterprise development.

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in managing green jobs and green sector enterprises focused on climate change adaptation approaches in communities, CFUGs, and schools (two years for the NGO sector).
  • Sound computer skills in word processing, excel, power-point, and other basic computer software.
  • The ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks and under intense time constraints.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research on the NRM sectors.
  • Capable of writing reports and other documentation in high-quality English (and Nepali if necessary).
  • Owning a two-wheeler driving license will be an added advantage.

Designation                   : Field officer – Green Livelihoods

Detailed job description/requirements:

Implementation of the project

  • Support in hiring consultants for field level studies, as well as assisting the consultant in the field study for the feasibility study of green jobs related to the farm, forest, and natural management (NRM) sectors; and supporting or developing green job protocols.
  • Form or reform the inclusive producer, processor, or forest users’ group; develop the guidelines for the mobilization of the group in a participatory way; hold regular meetings.
  • Adopt a thorough process for selecting youths for green jobs; organize, facilitate, and provide technical support for the selected green jobs to be initiated and profitably run by local youths.
  • Facilitate the youths’ financial linkage with the MFIs, cooperatives, local governments, and the relevant funds for the increased businesses.
  • Coordination with market actors for long-term use of products and market-driven approaches for increased production and marketing.
  • Support on the advocacy of the successful model with the government authorities, in support of the project beneficiaries-CFUGs, youths, producers’ or processors’ groups, etc.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Collect both qualitative and quantitative data, case stories, video clips, pictures, etc. from the field and assist with data processing and documentation in the proper way.
  • Work in the compilation and development of project reports; the preparation of case stories; collection of feedback and learning for developmental evaluation; in coordination with the MEAL and documentation teams.
  • Focusing on evidence generation of the project actions and the needs of the schools and youth for climate adaptive practices and know-how to be developed in the succeeding period.

Required Qualification

Intermediate degree in Forestry (I. Sc. Forestry), Intermediate degree in Agriculture (I. Sc. Agriculture), or equivalent qualification in NRM Science with experience in forest-based or farm-based enterprise promotion and the CCA sector is required.

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of three years’ experience (two years for the NGO sector) in green sector enterprise establishment in rural settings. Capabilities in the facilitation of life skills training, business plan development, and technical training at the community level for the capacity building of potential, new, and growing green sector enterprises.
  • Knowledge of climate change theory and adaptation practices to help people cope with a changing climate. Working closely with the local and provincial governments will be an added advantage.
  • Sound computer skills in word processing, excel, power-point, and other basic computer software. Capacity to organize and facilitate orientation events, trainings, workshops, etc.
  • The ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks and under intense time constraints.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative NRM research, able to write reports and other documentation in English and Nepali.
  • Own a two-wheeler driving license will be an added advantage.

Designation                   : Field officer – Education

Number of Position      : One (1)

Detailed job description/requirements:

The overall responsibility of the position is to form and reform the Child Eco-Clubs, develop and review the SIP, including the climatic impacts and remedial measures in the plans and actions, design and layout plan for the implementation of the green generation initiatives at schools. A specialized protocol of the SIP will be developed at the municipal level and adapted in the field for its implementation.

Implementation of the project

  • Support on the logical selection of the schools by developing standard criteria for implementing the green generation concept in the Guran Rural Municipality
  • Support to develop the climate and environment aspects informed SIP of the LGs and update the SIP of the selected schools.
  • Revise the existing climate awareness and empowerment manual and assist the schools to run with the local curriculum. Organize, manage, and facilitate the teachers’ training and review it’s cascading to the students’ level.
  • Support for implementing the climate and environment-informed SIP. Develop the overall design/layout of the green school with a vision, goal, and objectives.
  • Develop child club champions, develop working guidelines with the Child Eco-clubs, and support Child Eco-Clubs to organize climate and environmental activities (planned activities) at school.
  • Mobilize child eco-clubs receive assistance with waste management techniques.
  • Implement SALT technology, permaculture design, and kitchen gardening concepts at schools in consensus with the schools, teachers, and the Echo-clubs and promote them in the mid-day mill.
  • Support on the advocacy of the successful model with the government authorities in support of the SMC, Child Clubs, and parents, etc.

  • Collect both qualitative and quantitative data, case stories, video clips, pictures, etc. from the field and assist with data processing and documentation in the proper way.
  • Work in the compilation and development of project reports; the preparation of case stories; the collection of feedback and learning for developmental evaluation; in coordination with the MEAL and documentation teams.
  • Focusing on evidence generation of the project actions and the needs of the schools and youth for climate adaptive practices and know-how to be developed in the succeeding period.

Required Qualification

Bachelors’ Degree in Education, or the equivalent qualification with surplus experiences of working on green school concept.

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of three years’ experience (two years for the NGO sector) in green school concept in the rural settings. Capabilities in the facilitation of workshop, trainings, orientation sessions, on climate change and green school perspective will be preferred.
  • Knowledge of climate change theory and adaptation practices to help schools cope with a changing climate and environmental degradation.
  • Experience of working with PTA, SMCs, schools, and child eco-clubs for the design and joint implementation of the green generation concept at schools. Working closely with the local and provincial governments will be an added advantage.
  • Sound computer skills in word processing, excel, power-point, and other basic computer software.
  • The ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks and under intense time constraints.
  • Write reports and other documentation in English and Nepali.
  • Own a two-wheeler driving license will be an added advantage.

Designation                   : Field officer – Marketing

Number of Position      : One (1)

Detailed job description/requirements:

Implementation of the project

  • Support in hiring consultants for field level studies, as well as assisting the consultant in the field study for the feasibility study of green jobs related to the farm production, processing, and natural management (NRM) sectors; and supporting or developing green job protocols.
  • Develop the market management plan for the farm and forest-based fresh or processed products for the sustained run of the business.
  • Develop a detailed contact and communication action plan with producers, processors, cooperatives, and the network for product flow and better return on investment for producers.
  • Organize and facilitate regular meetings with producers, traders, cooperatives, the private sector, banks, MFIs, and insurance companies to improve business operations.
  • Check the market feasibility of the selected green job sectors; develop the market channel.
  • Develop the MoU with the producers/processors and the market for the flow of goods and services in the long run.
  • Develop the quality of the produce demanded by the market for the selective green job business in coordination with the producers and the traders. Make a contract agreement with the producers and the traders for the ensured supply of quality goods and production inputs in the market or to the producers with a timely payment system. Make a contract with the transportation companies to ensure a continuous flow of produce in the market.
  • Develop product processing approaches, methodologies, and techniques in consultation with the Forestry and Agriculture Officer.
  • Coordinate with the Project Coordinator and the Field Officer for the establishment, initiation, and long-term planning of the green job business in the area.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Collect both qualitative and quantitative data, video clips, pictures, etc. from the field and assist with data processing and documentation in a proper way,
  • Work in the compilation and development of project reports; the preparation of case stories; the collection of feedback and learning for developmental evaluation; in coordination with the MEAL and documentation teams.
  • From evidence generation of the project actions and the needs of the schools and youth from the marketing perspective, to induce climate change adaptive production and marketing practices and know-how to be developed in the succeeding period.

Coordination and Collaboration

Establish and maintain close collaboration with the Gurans Rural Municipality, the SAHAYATRA team, farm producers’ group, processor’s group, market network, children’s clubs, and other stakeholders for the synergetic implementation and sustainability of the project.

Others

Required Qualification

Bachelors’ Degree in Management or similar qualification with specialization in the marketing sector. Experience of working on farm-based enterprise promotion and in the CCA sector would be an advantage.

Experience and Skills

  • minimum of three years’ experience in the production and marketing of goods and services is required. Working in the green products sector will be an added advantage.
  • Sound computer skills in word processing, excel, power-point, and other basic computer software.
  • The ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks and under intense time constraints.
  • Able to write reports and other documentation in English and Nepali.
  • Owning a two-wheeler driving license will be an added advantage.
