SOSEC Nepal, established in 27th Aug 1997 as a non-profitable and non-governmental organization that is officially registered in District Administrative Office Dailekh and is affiliated with Social Welfare Council.  The organization has considered Women, Children, Youth, Dalits and Marginalized people as its prime target group and is recognized as one of the leading organizations working in the sector of Women and Children in Karnali Province. Since its establishment, SOSEC Nepal has completed over 50 projects in various thematic areas, including education, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), livelihood, community-based disaster risk reduction (CCA/DRR), health, and human rights. The organization has formed partnerships with well-known international non-governmental organizations (INGOs and with government entities. The organization has its central office in Narayan Municipality-1 Nayabazar Dailekh, and coordination and field offices in Kalikot, Achham, Surkhet, and in Lalitpur Districts.

SOSEC Nepal is also adopting a zero-tolerance policy on the issues of violence against women & children, fraud, bibery and corruption.

SOSEC is implementing the NPL Climate Change Initiative( Green Job)  project in partnership with Save the Children Nepal and in coordination with Gurans Rural Municipality in Dailekh district. The project supports the youth at the community level and school children from the selected areas in this piloting phase, in close cooperation with the SAHAYATRA project. The improved capacity of youth and women to establish green enterprises and engage in green jobs in selected wards of Gurans rural municipality through piloting youth-led green jobs and enterprises for evidence generation and expansion, enhances climate-friendly livelihoods opportunities and enhances the knowledge and capacities of youth (men and women) to advocate and implement green job initiatives. Likely, the green generation are focused on climate awareness sessions, activism, and green gardens that culminate with their parents, households, and communities. The child club awareness and adaptive actions expand from schools to the communities for sustained climatic solutions to create employment opportunities for the youth and their parents, which ensures continued schooling and for the overall well-being of the children.

 Job Summary:

The Project Coordinator manages key compliances of projects with responsibilities including the coordination with stakeholders and concerned government authorities of Province, District and Local Government. Oversee the elements and programs of the project and prepare documents to have coordination and advocacy with the concerned stakeholders and partners. He/She is responsible for seeking opportunities of collaboration in the project or program from Local Government and stakeholders. As a lead person of the project, he/she is responsible for the overall management of the project including, staff mobilization, HR concern, Financial aspects, coordination with stakeholders, beneficiaries, management team and partner agencies, monitoring and supervision of project, reporting and documentation. The position is based in Guras Municipality with frequent visits to project areas

 Role and Responsibilities

This is a technical position with management responsibilities. The details of the role and responsibilities are given below:

  1. Implementation of the project
  • Develop the terms of reference for hiring the consultant, ensure the quality of the reports, and implement the best approaches to the study findings in the area. The assessments include the potentiality and feasibility of the study of the green jobs and green generation opportunities that support climate and environmental risks; developing green job protocols; and developing/updating the school improvement plan considering the green generation concepts.
  • Lead in the operationalization of the green economy development models for the youths by organizing a series of training and implementing green economy action for an increased green sectorial business run by the youths.
  • Connect with government counterparts, cooperatives, and youth, including household members, to develop and implement a resilient and viable business plan.
  • Capacity building of the community forest users’ group (CFUGs) and mobilizing them for climate-friendly, water conservation and efficient water use technologies.
  • Ensure that the concepts of green generation are taught in schools. Formation/reformation of the child clubs, training for them, including green school concepts in SIP and its implementation, campaigns at schools, climate, and environmental support activities, etc.
  1. Documentation and Reporting
  • Collect both qualitative and quantitative data from the field as and when required, assist with data processing and document them in the proper manner,
  • Work in the compilation and development of project reports; the preparation of case stories; the collection of feedback and learning for developmental evaluation; and coordination with the MEAL and documentation teams.
  • Focused on evidence generation of the project actions and the needs of the schools and youth for climate adaptive practices and know-how to be developed in the succeeding period.
  1. Coordination and Collaboration
  • Establish and maintain close collaboration with the Gurans Rural Municipality, the SAHAYATRA team, the SMC, CFUGs, child clubs, youth clubs, and other stakeholders for the synergetic implementation of the project.
  1. Fund Raising
  • Research and keep track of funding opportunities, providing timely information to support the development of new bids.
  • Work with the Deputy Executive Director, Technical Director, Program Manager and other staff to develop and coordinate for specific project funding proposals and bids to institutional donors, trusts and foundations.
  • Develop SOSEC’s ability to raise unrestricted funds from major donors, corporate and individuals, working with other team members on supporter engagement.
  • Build a positive relationship between SOSEC and its financial supporters to maintain and grow their support.
  • Run systems needed to help with fundraising work, including maintaining a funding contacts database
  1. Management of the project:
  • Staff mobilization and management
  • Proper documentation of the staffs and process
  • Due concern on the organization and partner organization compliance in the process of implementation.
  • Proper monitoring and supervision of the project.
  • Reporting and documentation of the project and timely submission to the management team and stakeholders.
  • Build transparency and accountability within the project.
  • Proper Coordination and Collaboration with concerned bodies.
  1. Others
  • Work closely with Save the Children’s Technical Manager-Child Poverty to ensure the successful implementation of the envisioned GJGG project.
  • Any other tasks developed during the implementation of the project.

 Required Qualification

  • Maste/Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Environmental Science, Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Management, or NRM sector experience of working in green jobs and enterprise development.

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in managing green jobs and green sector enterprises focused on climate change adaptation approaches in communities, CFUGs, and schools (3 years for the NGO sector).
  • Sound computer skills in word processing, excel, power-point, and other basic computer software.
  • The ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks and under intense time constraints.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research on the NRM sectors.
  • Capable of writing reports and other documentation in high-quality English (and Nepali if necessary).
  • Owning a two-wheeler driving license will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

           Designation                                  : Assistant MEAL Officer

           Number of Position                  : One (1)

 Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the MEAL Officer, the MEAL Assistant is responsible for routine monitoring of the project, data collection, quality assurance, implementation of key MEAL tools and establishment of community complaints and feedback mechanisms. The Assistant MEAL Officer will also be responsible for recording and monitoring feedback, ensuring that the feedback mechanisms loop is closed, and that clients are informed of decisions taken.

Key Responsibilities;

Monitoring

  • Collect data from the field as per the MEAL plan in consultation with MEAL Officer.
  • Follow up proactively with the Programme team and management to ensure MEAL data is collected;
  • Develop and submit weekly and/or monthly field monitoring plans in consultation with the MEAL Officer;
  • Prepare regular monitoring reports against the monitoring plan as per standard monitoring checklists developed by the MEAL Officer.
  • Support the MEAL Officer in providing field level feedback on monitoring checklists or tools.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses in existing data collection and management systems and propose field-level solutions to support the MEAL Officer.

Evaluation

  • Assist in conducting surveys, observational monitoring, focus group discussions and key informant interviews.
  • Supervise data collection process at field level and conduct data cleaning, editing and verification activities.
  • Enter gathered data in a prescribed format, provided by the MEAL Officer;
  • Support MEAL Officer in the analyses of quantitative and qualitative data, producing graphs, summaries, draft reports;
  • Supervise project baselines, surveys and evaluations at field level under the supervision of the MEAL Officer.

Accountability

  • Manage the feedback systems and ensure a timely and appropriate follow-up if needed.
  • Work closely with the field staff to collect data and implement activities to support beneficiaries’ accountability
  • Manage and report community complaints and feedback under the supervision of the MEAL Officer;
  • Assist MEAL Officer in establishing and managing the Complaint and Feedback Mechanism at field level.

Learning

  • Assist MEAL Officer in assisting the field level Programme team in documenting lessons learnt;
  • Assist MEAL Officer in establishing field level learning and incorporating systems/ mechanisms considering Programme needs.
  • Support the implementation of reviews and learning events of project as guided by the MEAL Officer.

MEAL systems

  • Provide feedback on LFA and MEAL plan to the MEAL Officer to support them in understanding field context while developing plans.
  • Support field teams in developing and monitoring the project implementation plans and report regular progress to the MEAL Officer.
  • Support the MEAL Officer in developing and pre-testing MEAL tools.
  • Ensure timely and quality reporting of the projects.
  • Ensure that project interventions have met the minimum standard.

 SKILLS & QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum of  2 years (1 years for GESI group*) for Bachelors  & 5 years (3 years for GESI group*) for 10+2   of MEAL in the development sector of Education, Livelihood, Human right and SDRR Management
  • Bachelor Degree/ 10+2  Relevant discipline.
  • Good understanding of MEAL Approach, Humanitarian context, Empowering and Advocacy issues in Nepal/ District.
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of MEAL framework, tools and indicator settings.
  • Evidence based monitoring and evaluation frameworks and programs, with emphasis on participatory and partnership MEAL approaches.
  • Strong knowledge of IT applications, development especially on spreadsheet, and database management.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English and good report writing skills.
  • Skills on collecting secondary and primary data using online and offline tools
  • Skills on database management and data analysis
  • Demonstrate, honesty, transparency, professionalism and strong communication with programme team
  • Ability to support team work and team mobilization on MEAL findings and actions
  • Ability to treat individuals with fairness and respect, demonstrating sensitivity for ethnic, cultural and gender differences
